Below is a copy of the unit guide I developed to teach the Australian pre-teen novel Blabber Mouth by Morris Gleitzman. The unit took two weeks to execute, and I developed all of the activities, comprehension questions, and learning activities without assistance. I used a combination of individual silent reading, small group work, and teacher read aloud to get through the novel.

The unit guide was developed as an overview for my use. I checked it throughout my lesson development to make sure I was teaching the concepts and themes that I planned to teach. The unit guide helped shape my lessons and learning goals as it was created before any lessons.
This student work was done for the sample lesson above. Students worked in small groups to complete these tasks.
This quiz was meant to check students’ abilities to summarize, predict, and understand a plot sequence. Students were asked to summarize events that took place during the orientation and rising action of Blabber Mouth and predict what would happen during the climax, falling action, and resolution.
